to interpret circumstances surrounding deaths, illnesses, and injuries.
Importantly, the content is presented in simple and accessible language, ensuring that citizens from all

This Autopsy Manual has been developed as part of a broader effort to enhance public understanding of the
autopsy process. Recognizing its critical role in the Criminal Justice System, the manual aims to demystify
the procedures, principles, and protocols involved in forensic autopsies.
Every effort has been made to include all relevant factors surrounding an autopsy—ranging from the history,
morgue, autopsy process, and reporting that may have legal implications. By fostering awareness and
understanding, this manual contributes not only to legal transparency but also to community health and
public trust.
04. Asphyxial Deaths

These deaths can be classified into several types based on the mechanism of oxygen deprivation. The main categories of Violent Asphyxial Deaths include Strangulation, Hanging, and Suffocation.
Hanging involves suspension of the body by the neck, typically using a ligature. Strangulation involves the compression of the neck, obstructing blood flow and/or airflow.
